Daniel Uiterwijk – Associate
I completed my Master of Clinical Neuropsychology in 2019 and PhD in 2022 at La Trobe University. I am a registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), with endorsement in the area of Clinical Neuropsychology. I am also a Psychology Board of Australia approved supervisor and provide supervision for students and registrars, in addition to peer supervision for other clinical neuropsychologists.
My PhD research explored the relationship between depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder and cognitive functioning in people with a brain injury, with a particular focus on the impact of performance and symptom validity testing. I have published several articles on this topic in peer-reviewed journals.
Since beginning my career as a neuropsychologist, I have gained experience conducting comprehensive neuropsychological assessments for various purposes, including diagnostic clarification, decision-making capacity, and rehabilitation. I also have experience in behaviour management and regularly provide training in this area to care providers and other allied health professionals.
I have extensive experience in the community rehabilitation setting, where I work as a Senior Clinical Neuropsychologist. I work with clients across the lifespan who present with a range of conditions, including neurodevelopmental disorders, learning difficulties, neurological disorders, traumatic brain injuries, stroke, dementia, drug and alcohol, and mental health difficulties. I am committed to delivering evidence-based interventions while tailoring my work with clients according to their individual needs and circumstances to manage changes in their functioning and maximise their independence and quality of life.
I am also committed to ongoing professional development and have undergone extra training and gained experience in various psychological therapies so that I can draw from a wide range of treatment modalities in my practice, including cognitive behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, motivational interviewing, and positive behaviour support. I am also experienced in adapting psychological therapies for clients with cognitive changes/difficulties.
